On June 25, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Austria 55 years ago, bilateral relations have maintained sound and steady development on the whole. The most valuable experience lies in mutual respect and equal treatment, and the most effective approach is openness, inclusiveness and mutual benefit for win-win results. The China-Austria friendly strategic cooperative partnership fully proves that countries with different sizes, systems and civilizations can absolutely become good friends and partners. The two sides should stay true to the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic relations, sustain high-level exchanges, respect each other’s core interests, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, consolidate the social and public opinion foundation of bilateral ties, and inject fresh vitality into the time-honored China-Austria friendship in the new era.

Wang Yi noted that the current international landscape is fraught with chaos, and peace and development have suffered severe setbacks. President Xi Jinping has put forward the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity as well as the four major global initiatives, offering a Chinese solution that serves the common interests of humanity. China congratulates Austria on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. China stands ready to step up communication and coordination with Austria, jointly uphold the authority of the United Nations, safeguard international rule of law, fairness and justice, champion multilateralism and free trade, advance the reform and improvement of the global governance system, and make new contributions of the two countries to the cause of world peace and development. China-Europe relations should be defined as a partnership rather than a rivalry. China’s development represents an opportunity instead of a challenge for Europe. China appreciates Austria’s rational and pragmatic policy toward China, and hopes Austria will continue to play a constructive role in advancing China-Europe relations.

Beate Meinl-Reisinger stated that Austria attaches great importance to developing relations with China and will continue to pursue the one-China policy. Taking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties as an opportunity, Austria is ready to strengthen strategic dialogue with China, expand cooperation covering economy, trade, investment, green development and other fields, and continuously deepen the reliable friendly strategic partnership between the two countries. Austrian enterprises are willing to further tap into the Chinese market and participate in the advancement of Chinese modernization. Faced with a turbulent world, Austria looks forward to closer coordination with China, fulfilling its duties as a non-permanent Security Council member, consolidating the leading role of the United Nations, and encouraging countries big and small to work together to advance world peace and development. Austria stands ready to facilitate candid dialogue between Europe and China and promote steady and sound growth of Europe-China relations.

The two sides also had in-depth exchanges of views on the Ukraine crisis, the situation in the Middle East and other issues.
