On October 15, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

Wang Yi stated that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Ilham Aliyev, China-Azerbaijan relations have entered a fast lane, achieved leapfrog development, reached the best period in history, and opened up broad prospects for the future. The sound development of bilateral relations is attributed to the deep mutual trust and strategic assurance of the two heads of state, which has promoted firm mutual support between the two sides on issues concerning each other’s core interests, continuously consolidated the political foundation of bilateral relations, and created important conditions for deepening cooperation between the two sides. China will continue to support Azerbaijan in accelerating its development and revitalization as its long-term strategic partner. China appreciates the work done by Azerbaijan as the chair of CICA, and supports Azerbaijan in playing a greater role in the CICA mechanism and in international affairs.

Wang Yi noted that next year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China is ready to work with Azerbaijan to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and seize the opportunity of the celebration of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations to jointly accelerate both countries’ modernization drive and benefit the two peoples.

Jeyhun Bayramov said that Azerbaijan and China are sincere friends and reliable partners to each other. The friendship between the two countries has a long history, and exchanges at all levels have become increasingly closer, bringing bilateral relations to an unprecedentedly high level. Azerbaijan firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is ready to follow the guidance of the two heads of state with China to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership, deepen cooperation in energy, transportation, climate change, artificial intelligence, culture and people-to-people exchanges and other fields, and step up efforts in the Belt and Road cooperation and the joint building of the Middle Corridor. Azerbaijan agrees with and values China’s leading role among Global South countries, fully supports the series of global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping, and is ready to strengthen mutual support and cooperation with China in international affairs.

The two sides also had in‑depth exchanges of views on advancing practical cooperation between the two countries in the next stage and on international and regional issues of common concern.
