On October 22, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Congo Constant-Serge Bounda in Beijing.
Wang Yi stated that President Xi Jinping and President Denis Sassou Nguesso have established solid mutual trust and friendship, which provides an important political guarantee for the development of China-Congo relations, and that bilateral relations enjoy a strong momentum of development. The Republic of the Congo is the first African country to reach an early harvest arrangement with China under the agreement on economic partnership for shared development, and cooperation between the two countries in various fields has yielded positive results. China appreciates the Congolese side's adherence to the one-China principle and its support for China's legitimate position of safeguarding its core interests. China will also continue to support the Congolese side in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions, keeping the destiny of the country in its own hands, and opposing all forms of bullying by any external forces.
Wang Yi noted that China is ready, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, to work with the Congolese side to plan high-level exchanges for the next stage, strengthen strategic alignment, steadily advance practical cooperation, and bring bilateral relations to a new level. China and the Republic of the Congo actively fulfill their responsibilities as co-chairs of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and the implementation rate of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit has approached 100 percent. The two sides should continue to maintain close coordination and prepare for the 10th Ministerial Conference, scheduled to be held in the Republic of the Congo in 2027, to advance a new round of upgrading and improvement of China-Africa cooperation.
Wang Yi stated that the role of the United Nations is currently facing challenges, unilateralism and protectionism are rampant, and the international order has been severely impacted. China supports African countries in playing a greater role on the international stage, and is ready to work with Africa to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, promote the democratization of international relations, and build a more just and equitable global governance system that meets the common aspirations of Global South countries. The Republic of the Congo is a founding state party to the International Organization for Mediation and a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. The two sides should make good use of these multilateral platforms, strengthen communication and coordination, and uphold fairness and justice.
Constant-Serge Bounda stated that China is a good friend and good brother of the Republic of the Congo, and the two sides have always trusted and supported each other. The Congolese side is ready to work with China, under the guidance of the two heads of state, to deepen cooperation in various fields and advance the building of a high-level Congo-China community with a shared future. The Congolese side supports the series of global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and reaffirms its firm adherence to the one-China principle. The current international and regional situation is complex and severe, peace and security are under threat, and it is necessary for the Global South to strengthen solidarity and cooperation. China's zero-tariff policy has broadly benefited African countries, including the Republic of the Congo. The Congolese side appreciates China's emphasis on Africa's health undertakings and its assistance to Africa in combating the Ebola epidemic and strengthening health infrastructure. The Congolese side is ready to work with China to jointly prepare for the new Ministerial Conference of FOCAC and promote new and greater development of Africa-China relations.
