CCTV: China announced that President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women and deliver a keynote speech. Can you share more details?

Guo Jiakun: This year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women organized by the UN, which was held in Beijing. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was adopted at the conference 30 years ago, which became a milestone in the development of women’s cause globally. In 2020, President Xi Jinping attended the High-Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women via video link and delivered an important speech, in which he proposed to convene another Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in 2025.

To deliver on this important proposal of President Xi, China will co-host with UN Women the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women together in Beijing from October 13 to 14. The meeting will bring parties together to renew the spirit of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, accelerate the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, provide new impetus for promoting gender equality globally and the all-round development of women, and jointly build a community with a shared future for humanity. President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the meeting and deliver a keynote speech. Dozens of heads of state and government, leaders of parliament, deputy prime ministers, ministerial-level officials, heads of international organizations and friends from around the world will attend the meeting. We look forward to working with the international community to make this meeting a great success and set it up as another milestone in the history of the development of women’s cause globally.

RIA Novosti: Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said he has asked the Chinese side to support the proposal for “an Olympic Truce for all wars, including Ukraine and the Middle East,” during the Olympic Winter Games in February 2026. Does China support Italy’s proposal?

Guo Jiakun: The Olympic Truce is a time-honored tradition. It embodies humanity’s pursuit of peace for all and support for each other, and reflects the founding mission of the UN, that is, safeguarding world peace and security. At the moment, the world is neither peaceful nor tranquil, and regional security hotspots keep cropping up. China supports taking the Olympic Truce resolution as an opportunity to bridge differences through dialogue and replace confrontation with cooperation, enhance mutual understanding and safeguard world peace and development.

China Daily: It’s reported that the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted by consensus the resolution tabled by China on economic, social and cultural rights. Can you further brief us on that?

Guo Jiakun: The 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council on Monday adopted by consensus the resolution on “Promoting and protecting economic, social and cultural rights within the context of addressing inequalities” submitted by China on behalf of nearly 70 countries, including Bolivia, Egypt, Pakistan, and South Africa. The resolution calls for stronger multilateralism and international cooperation and efforts of fully leveraging the role of the knowledge hub for economic, social and cultural rights, which was established under China’s proposal, so as to better provide technical assistance and capacity-building support for countries in need.

Representatives of various countries extended their congratulations to China. Developing countries said that the resolution reflects the real needs of people around the world and serves as a strong response to the developing countries’ call for greater input into economic, social and cultural rights. China will continue upholding true multilateralism, enhancing dialogue and cooperation with all sides based on equality and mutual respect and helping to promote the sound development of the international human rights cause.

Global Times: It’s reported that the House Select Committee on China recently released an investigation—How visa policies enable Chinese defense entities to tap U.S. higher education—to spread disinformation and propose restrictions on normal exchange and cooperation in education between the two countries. What’s your comment?

Guo Jiakun: There is nothing credible about the committee you mentioned which keeps attacking and smearing China for its political agenda. Over its irresponsible investigation, the Chinese side has protested to the U.S. side.

Let me stress that exchange and cooperation in education between China and the U.S. is mutually beneficial. It is in the interest of both sides, is what the two countries expect, and is conducive to interaction and understanding between the two peoples. Some U.S. politicians overstretch the concept of national security and interfere in and disrupt normal educational cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Their attempts find no support and will lead nowhere. We urge the U.S. to act on President Trump’s commitment to welcoming Chinese students to study in the country and stop harming relevant parties’ interests and China-U.S. ties. China will keep a close eye on what the U.S. says and does and will do what is necessary to firmly defend its legitimate rights and interests.

CGTN: India’s Foreign Ministry said that direct flights between India and China will resume before the end of October. What’s China’s comment?

Guo Jiakun: China and India will restart direct flights before the end of October this year. This is the latest move that demonstrates how the two sides faithfully act on the important common understandings reached between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tianjin on August 31. It’s also an active move that facilitates the friendly exchanges of over 2.8 billion Chinese and Indian people.

China stands ready to work with India to view and handle bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, be friends enjoying good-neighborliness and partners helping each other succeed, and realize a cooperative pas de deux of the dragon and the elephant so as to deliver more tangibly for the two peoples and make due contributions to upholding peace and prosperity in Asia and beyond.

BBC: What is China’s reaction to allegations that it instructed two British men, Christopher Cash and Christopher Berry, to spy on the UK?

Guo Jiakun: Now that the UK judicial authorities have dropped the case you mentioned, it is all the more evident that the so-called “spying for China” allegation is pure fabrication. China firmly opposes peddling “spying activities” and “China threat” narratives to vilify China, and we urge some in the UK to avoid being paranoid.

AFP: Premier of the State Council Li Qiang arrived in the DPRK today for the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Workers’ Party of Korea. This is Chinese Premier’s first visit to the DPRK since 2009. What message does China want to send to the world through this trip?

Guo Jiakun: We’ve released information on Premier Li Qiang’s visit to the DPRK, which you may refer to. China and the DPRK are traditional friends and neighbors. It is an unswerving strategic policy of the Party and the Chinese government to maintain, consolidate and develop China-DPRK relations. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea. China stands ready to work with the DPRK through this visit to follow the guidance of the important common understandings reached between the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, enhance strategic communication, strengthen exchanges and cooperation and advance China-DPRK traditional friendship and cooperative ties.

BBC: Can we ask for information about APEC? Can you confirm that President Xi will attend APEC in South Korea later this month and early November? And can you confirm that he will visit South Korea and have a meeting on the sidelines with President Donald Trump?

Guo Jiakun: China attaches great importance to APEC. We stand ready to work with other parties at this year’s meeting to produce positive outcomes and contribute to the economic growth of the Asia-Pacific and the wider world. As for the specifics you asked about, I have no information to share at the moment.

China Youth Daily: It’s reported that recently the 31st regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Andean Community was held and through discussion accepted China as an observer state of the organization. What’s China’s comment?

Guo Jiakun: The Andean Community is a major integration organization in Latin America. In 2000, China established a political consultation mechanism with the Andean Community. China’s relations with member states of the organization have maintained a sound momentum of development with solid political mutual trust, fruitful practical cooperation and diverse people-to-people exchanges. As China becomes an observer state of the organization, we stand ready to take this opportunity to work with the Andean Community to forge a new cooperation paradigm featuring complementary bilateral and multilateral interactions, in an effort to deliver more benefit for people in China and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and contribute to building a China-LAC community with a shared future.

AFP: The U.S. government said yesterday that it fired a State Department employee for concealing a romantic relationship with a Chinese national. What’s the Foreign Ministry’s comment?

Guo Jiakun: We have no comment on the U.S.’s domestic affairs. That said, we oppose drawing lines along ideological difference and maliciously vilifying China.

AFP: I want to know what is China’s response to the proposed deal on Gaza?

Guo Jiakun: China hopes that a full and permanent ceasefire in Gaza will be realized as early as possible, the humanitarian crisis will be effectively eased, and tensions in the region will be diffused. China upholds the principle of “the Palestinians governing Palestine” and promotes the implementation of the two-State solution. We stand ready to work with the international community to make unremitting effort towards an early, full, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question and a peaceful and stable Middle East.
