Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jiang Yu's Remarks on the Report of the US Department of Defense on Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China
Updated: August 19, 2010 15:15

Q: The report recently released by the US Department of Defense made assessment of China's military development. How does China comment?

A: The US report points fingers at China's normal national defense and military build-up, exaggerates China's military power, spread the "China military threat" theory and blame the setbacks in bilateral military relations on the Chinese side. We are firmly opposed to such a report and have made representations with the US side. China is firmly committed to the path of peaceful development, a defense policy that is defensive in nature and the maintenance of peace and stability of the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. We urge the US to respect facts, stop releasing such reports and do more to help develop China-US military relations instead of the opposite.
