Updated: February 14, 2011 10:51

Q: How does China view the current Cambodia-Thailand border situation? What mediation efforts has China made after conflicts arose on the Cambodia-Thailand border? What measures will be taken next?

A: China pays high attention to the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, and regrets the casualties caused by the conflicts. Cambodia and Thailand are both ASEAN member states as well as good neighbors of China. After the conflicts occurred, China has maintained close contact with Cambodia and Thailand through different channels, clearly suggesting both sides keep calm, exercise restraint and end the military confrontation as soon as possible so as to avoid further escalation of the situation and make efforts to resolve disputes through consultation. China supports the mediation efforts of ASEAN to ease the tension between Cambodia and Thailand, and is willing to play a constructive role for the proper settlement of relevant issues together with the international community including ASEAN.
