Q: A report released by the UN on April 25 on the armed conflict in Sri Lanka concludes that the conduct of both the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Government of Sri Lanka in the final stage of the civil war may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. What is China's comment on the report?

A: We have noted the UN released the report of the Secretary-General's panel of experts. Sri Lanka has set up relevant institution to look into civil war-related issues. China believes that the Government and people of Sri Lanka are capable of handling all relevant issues. We hope the international community can support and coordinate the endeavor of the Sri Lankan Government, create a favorable external environment for the Government's efforts to stabilize domestic situation and accelerate economic development, and refrain from taking any measure to complicate the issue.
