Updated: September 12, 2012 15:25

Q: The US Consulate in Benghazi was stormed on the night of September 11. Many were killed, including US Ambassador to Libya. What is China's comment on that?

A: We are shocked at the attack against the US Consulate in Benghazi as well as the ensuing casualties, including that of US Ambassador to Libya. We strongly condemn the violence. China believes that in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the Libyan authorities have the responsibility and obligation to protect the safety and property of diplomatic missions and staff in Libya through all necessary means.
