From April 21 to 25, 2023, Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong visited Cambodia. During the visit, he met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn and held talks with Permanent Secretary of State for the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Cambodia and Secretary General of Cambodia-China Intergovernmental Coordination Committee Vongsey Vissoth. Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian was present.

Nong Rong said that President Xi Jinping has had cordial meetings with King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen since the beginning of this year, and the two sides have agreed to join hands to build a “diamond hexagon” cooperation framework between China and Cambodia to usher in a new era of jointly building a high-quality, high-level and high-standard China-Cambodia community with a shared future. China firmly supports Cambodia in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and holding a successful general election. China is ready to make concerted efforts with Cambodia to implement the “industrial development corridor” and the “fish-rice corridor”, and deepen security cooperation for jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. China supports ASEAN in maintaining unity and development and stands ready to continuously deepen the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership.

The Cambodian side said that Chinese modernization brings development opportunities to Cambodia and other countries in the world, and expressed heartfelt appreciation for China’s valuable support for Cambodia's development and stability. Cambodia will stay committed to the one-China policy, and oppose any attempt to interfere in China’s internal affairs and contain China. Cambodia is ready to work with China to take the lead in practicing the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. The two sides should deepen and substantiate the “diamond hexagon” cooperation framework, advance the building of the “industrial development corridor" and the "fish-rice corridor”, guarantee the security of China’s major projects and personnel in Cambodia, ensure the success of celebrations for the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and China, and maintain close coordination and collaboration within such multilateral frameworks as ASEAN-China cooperation and Lancang-Mekong cooperation.

Nong Rong also paid a visit to Cambodia’s Preah Sihanouk province, during which he met with Governor Kuoch Chamroeun of the province and made field trips to key projects of Belt and Road cooperation between China and Cambodia.
