From May 30 to June 2, 2023, a delegation from the League of Arab States (LAS) visited Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, including over 30 officials from 16 Arab states and the LAS Secretariat. Secretary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China Ma Xingrui and Chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Erkin Tuniyaz met with the delegation, accompanied by Ambassador for China-Arab States Cooperation Forum Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Li Chen.
The delegation visited Urumqi and Kashgar, where they witnessed the harmonious coexistence of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, the people living and working in peace and contentment, and the freedom of belief fully guaranteed. They also had an in-depth understanding of Xinjiang's successful experience in poverty alleviation and rural revitalization. Members of the delegation said Xinjiang enjoys social harmony and economic prosperity, and Muslims freely exercise their ethnic and religious rights according to law. What they saw in Xinjiang is totally different from what was depicted by certain Western media. The so-called "genocide" and "religious persecution" are false allegations. The Arab side appreciates China's efforts to care for ethnic minorities including Muslims in Xinjiang and will continue to firmly support China in safeguarding the development and stability of Xinjiang. They noted that China's development experience is worth learning, and the Arab side looks forward to achieving more outcomes in bilateral practical cooperation in various fields under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
