On June 16, 2023, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong led members of the reading club of the department to attend Beijing International Book Fair, and paid a special visit to a booth of two publishing houses of the Republic of Korea (ROK). He said to the booth staff that "close neighbors are better than distant relatives", that the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries are facing new situations, new opportunities, and new challenges after the pandemic, and that people from all walks of life should take stock of their original aspirations, face issues squarely, remain confident, and meet difficulties head-on. He encouraged Chinese and ROK young people to read more outstanding classics and contemporary works of each other's country, pay more visits to each other's country, and do more things conducive to China-ROK friendship.

When visiting the national booth of Japan, Liu Jinsong said that China and Japan have great potential for exchanges and cooperation in culture, arts and publishing; a Chinese documentary called The Yangtze River, filmed by Director Ryo Takeuchi, has been well-received in China and Japan; and the Japanese version of a Chinese sci-fi novel The Three-body Problem is also a best-seller.

Liu Jinsong also had cordial exchanges with foreign publishers at national booths of Malaysia, Nepal and other countries, and discussed with Chinese and foreign people a plan for advancing the inter-lingual translation of Asian classics.
