On June 26, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs Liu Xiaoming held consultation with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko in Beijing. The two sides had in-depth discussion on the Korean Peninsula issue.
Liu and Rudenko believe that, 70 years has passed since the armistice of the Korean War, the transition from armistice mechanism to peace mechanism has not realized, and relevant parties’ concerns, particularly the DPRK’s reasonable security concerns have not been addressed in a balanced manner. These are the root cause and crux of tension and confrontation on the Korean Peninsula today.
They stressed that maintaining peace and stability, realizing denuclearization and establishing peace mechanism on the Peninsula are in the common interest of the region and the international community. They hope that relevant parties, with a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, should follow the “dual track” approach and the “phased and synchronized” principle, address each other’s concerns in a balanced way through meaningful dialogue, and strive to achieve lasting peace and stability on the Peninsula at an early date.
Liu and Rudenko agreed that China and Russia should keep in close communication and coordination to jointly promote the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue.
