On September 4, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu met with visiting Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations of the United Nations (UN) Jean-Pierre Lacroix. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the international security situation, UN peacekeeping operations, cooperation between China and the UN, and other issues.
Ma Zhaoxu said that China is an important supporter of, participant in, and contributor to UN peacekeeping operations. President Xi Jinping has proposed the Global Security Initiative (GSI), which sets the direction for the international community to address global security challenges and provides fundamental guidance for China's participation in UN peacekeeping operations. China stands ready to work with the UN to further strengthen cooperation, implement the GSI, safeguard world peace and security, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Lacroix appreciated China's important support for and contribution to UN peacekeeping operations. He looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with China and constantly improving UN peacekeeping operations, to better respond to new situations and challenges.
