On May 15, 2024, Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue had a phone call with Norwegian Special Representative to the Middle East Peace Process Hilde Haraldstad at the latter's request. The two sides had an exchange of views on the conflict in Gaza.

Zhai Jun said, the protracted conflict in Gaza has aroused great concern among the international community. A ceasefire is the key to solving all problems, and ensuring humanitarian rescue is the top priority. Only when the "two-state solution" is fully implemented can the peaceful coexistence of Palestine and Israel and the harmonious coexistence of Arab and Jewish nations be achieved. China is ready to work with the international community to make unremitting efforts to this end.

Hilde Haraldstad said that since the outbreak of the conflict in Gaza, Norway has actively worked on various parties concerned to defuse tensions. The pressing task is to promote ceasefire, cessation of hostilities and ensure unimpeded humanitarian assistance. The Norwegian side highly appreciates China's constructive role, firmly supports the political settlement of the Palestinian question and stands ready to maintain communication and coordination with China.
