On April 11, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met with visiting Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana in Beijing.
Sun Weidong said that ESCAP, as the most important regional cooperation mechanism of the United Nations in the Asia-Pacific region, has made important contributions to promoting economic and social development in the region. China attaches great importance to the role of ESCAP, and stands ready to work with ESCAP to firmly uphold multilateralism, jointly advance the Global Development Initiative, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and push forward the building of an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.
Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana thanked China for its strong support to ESCAP and expressed willingness to strengthen communication and coordination with China, deepen Belt and Road cooperation and cooperation on the Global Development Initiative and others, accelerate the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and jointly promote development and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
