Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu Meets with UN Under-Secretary-General for Policy Guy Bernard Ryder

On March 28, 2024, Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Policy Guy Bernard Ryder, who is paying a visit to China. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the current international situation, the role of the UN, the preparations for the UN Summit of the Future, China's cooperation with the UN, and other issues.

Miao Deyu said that the world today is entering a new period of turbulence and transformation, and the international system is undergoing accelerated adjustments and evolution. China advocates for an equal and orderly multi-polar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and supports the UN in playing a core role in international affairs. He expressed the hope that the international community can take the UN Summit of the Future as an opportunity to speed up the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, achieve common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, strengthen international governance in artificial intelligence and other new frontiers, and make global governance more just and equitable. China is ready to work with the UN to implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, make positive contributions to promoting world peace and development, and advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Ryder thanked China for its firm support for multilateralism and the cause of the UN, as well as its important contributions to the preparations of the Summit of the Future, saying that the three major global initiatives put forward by China are fully in line with the concepts and goals of the UN, and that the UN is willing to deepen cooperation with China and make joint efforts to strengthen global governance and address challenges.
