On April 22, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Deng Li met with visiting Minister of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the UK Anne-Marie Trevelyan, and the two sides had in-depth discussions on promoting the development of China-UK relations and cooperation in such areas as trade and investment, green development, and artificial intelligence. The Chinese side emphasized that Hong Kong-related affairs are China's internal affairs and opposed external interference, the politicization of human rights and "double standards". The two sides had an exchange of views on international and regional topics, and the Chinese side clarified its position on the Middle East and the Ukraine crisis.
