On September 10, 2024, Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue had a phone call with Special Representative of the Austrian Chancellor for Global Affairs Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal at the latter's request.
Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal said that since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict, Austria has been actively working with relevant parties to promote an early ceasefire and prevent the further expansion of humanitarian disasters. Austria is concerned about the ongoing conflict and escalation in the West Bank, and believes that the implementation of the two-State solution is the only realistic way out of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Austria highly appreciates China's positive and constructive efforts on the Gaza conflict issue, expects China to continue playing a greater role, and is willing to strengthen communication with China on the situation in the Middle East.
Zhai Jun said that the key to resolving the current prolonged Gaza conflict and the deterioration of the situation in the Middle East is to achieve a permanent ceasefire and complete withdrawal of troops. Not long ago, China put forward a three-step initiative to resolve the ongoing Gaza conflict. The international community should work together to support Palestine in becoming a full member of the United Nations, promote the convening of a larger, more authoritative and more effective international peace conference, and formulate a timetable and road map for the implementation of the two-State solution, so as to ultimately realize the peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel. China is ready to maintain communication with Austria in this regard.
Zhai Jun also, upon request, briefed Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal on the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal congratulated China on the success of the Beijing Summit and appreciated the positive role China has played in promoting Africa's development.
