On October 18, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong co-chaired the Senior Officials Meeting of China-Singapore Joint Committee of Bilateral Cooperation with Second Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore Jeffrey Siow Chen Siang in Beijing.
Sun Weidong said, the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee was successfully held in July this year, laying out comprehensive plans for further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernization, and providing new development opportunities for Singapore and other countries in the world. China is ready to work with Singapore to make a success of this year's meeting of the Joint Committee of Bilateral Cooperation, coordinate and advance cooperation in all areas, and jointly promote the development of the two countries and the region, so as to reflect the all-round high-quality future-oriented China-Singapore relationship. Noting that next year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore, Sun Weidong expressed the hope that the two sides will strengthen strategic communication, deepen political mutual trust, firmly support each other's core interests and push for greater development of China-Singapore relations.
Jeffrey Siow Chen Siang said that the Singapore-China Joint Committee of Bilateral Cooperation is the highest-level mechanism for coordinating bilateral cooperation in various fields. The 20th meeting of the Singapore-China Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation will be held this year, which is an important milestone. Singapore is willing to work closely with China to make this year's mechanism meeting a success, deepen cooperation in all areas, and push the all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership between Singapore and China to a new level.
