On December 3, 2024, Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu, upon invitation, attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the 2024 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou).

Miao Deyu first conveyed warm congratulations from Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the Foreign Ministry on the conference. Noting that in the face of an evolving and turbulent international situation, where will the world head and how should countries coordinate and cooperate to meet challenges together so as to create a peaceful, tranquil, prosperous and bright future for mankind, he said China has given a clear and resounding answer, that is, to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Chinese modernization regards the promotion of building a community with a shared future for mankind as an essential requirement. As China moves toward modernization, it will remain a pillar of maintaining world peace, an important engine for openness and development in the world, a force for building a new type of international relations, a firm guide for global governance reform, and a source of impetus for exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations. It will always play a constructive role in peace, development, openness and progress amid major changes, and always work with other countries to make unremitting efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Miao Deyu expressed the hope that all the guests at the conference will fully appreciate the vitality of China's economy in the new era, the vigorous momentum of reform and innovation, and the rich glamor of Chinese culture, and make greater contributions to the world's better understanding of China, Chinese modernization, the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese people.

The 2024 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou) was co-hosted by the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs and the People's Government of Guangdong Province, with the theme of "Carry Through the Reform to the End - Chinese Modernization and New Opportunities for World Development". More than 600 guests from home and abroad attended the conference.
