On February 10, 2025, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met with new Ambassador of Viet Nam to China Pham Thanh Binh.

Sun Weidong welcomed Pham Thanh Binh on his assumption of the new post and said that since last year, the building of the China-Viet Nam community with a shared future has gotten off to a good start. High-level exchanges between the two parties and two countries have been close, the six overall goals of "greater political mutual trust, more solid security cooperation, deeper mutually beneficial cooperation, stronger popular support, closer multilateral coordination and better handling of differences" have been smoothly implemented, and many highlights have emerged in cooperation in various fields. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Viet Nam, as well as the China-Viet Nam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. General Secretary Xi Jinping had a phone call with General Secretary To Lam on the occasion of the New Year, charting the course for the development of China-Viet Nam relations in the next stage. China is ready to work closely with Viet Nam to follow the important common understandings reached between the top leaders of the two parties, strengthen strategic communication, intensify exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and ensure the success of a series of celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of China-Viet Nam diplomatic relations and the Year of People-to-people Exchanges, so as to take the building of a China-Viet Nam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance to a new level.

Pham Thanh Binh said that under the strategic guidance from the top level of the two parties and countries, Viet Nam-China relations have maintained a sound momentum of development, and developing relations with China has always been the top priority and strategic choice of Viet Nam's foreign policy. Pham Thanh Binh said that as the new Vietnamese Ambassador to China, he is keenly aware of his glorious mission and great responsibility. He expressed willingness to work with the Chinese side to earnestly implement the high-level common understandings reached between the two parties and countries and make positive contributions to building a Viet Nam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.
