Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Visits Viet Nam and Chairs China-Viet Nam Diplomatic Consultations

From February 25 to 27, 2025, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong visited Viet Nam, during which he paid a courtesy call on Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, and co-chaired China-Viet Nam diplomatic consultations with Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu. Chinese Ambassador to Viet Nam He Wei attended the relevant events.

Sun Weidong said that since last year, the building of a China-Viet Nam community with a shared future has made a good start. General Secretary Xi Jinping has maintained strategic communication with General Secretary To Lam, charting the course for the development of China-Viet Nam relations. The two sides have witnessed fruitful results in cooperation across various fields and the smooth implementation of the six overall goals of "greater political mutual trust, more solid security cooperation, deeper mutually beneficial cooperation, stronger popular support, closer multilateral coordination and better handling of differences". This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Viet Nam and the Year of People-to-People Exchanges. Guided by the important common understandings reached between the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, China is ready to work with Viet Nam to maintain high-level strategic communication, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, accelerate the building of a China-Viet Nam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, and continuously elevate bilateral relations to new heights from a new historical starting point.

The Vietnamese side expressed that the current Viet Nam-China relationship is at its best in history. The Vietnamese Party and government have always regarded the relationship with China as a strategic choice and a top priority. The Vietnamese side is willing to take the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and China and the Year of People-to-People Exchanges as an opportunity to deliver on the important common understandings reached between the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, continue to deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation in accordance with the six overall goals of "greater political mutual trust, more solid security cooperation, deeper mutually beneficial cooperation, stronger popular support, closer multilateral coordination and better handling of differences", and constantly enrich and update the building of a Viet Nam-China community with a shared future.

The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on international and regional situations, and stressed the need to jointly uphold the spirit of the United Nations Charter and basic norms of international law, carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, practice true multilateralism and open regionalism, promote the building of a just and reasonable international governance system, and make greater contributions to maintaining world peace and development.
