Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi Visits Costa Rica

From April 5 to 8, 2025, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi visited Costa Rica. He met respectively with President of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica Rodrigo Arias Sánchez and Vice Minister for Bilateral Affairs and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Costa Rica Lydia Maria Peralta Cordero, and had an exchange of views on deepening bilateral relations and other topics. Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Costa Rica Xu Tiefei attended the meetings.

Qiu Xiaoqi said that over the past 17 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Costa Rica, thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, bilateral relations have continued to move forward, with fruitful results in practical cooperation as well as rich and diverse people-to-people and cultural exchanges, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both countries. China is ready to work with Costa Rica to continuously consolidate political mutual trust, strengthen exchanges of governance experience, bring the two peoples closer, and push for the sustained and in-depth development of the strategic partnership between China and Costa Rica. Qiu Xiaoqi also elaborated on China's development dynamics and the guiding principles of China's Two Sessions.

President Rodrigo Arias Sánchez said that establishing diplomatic relations with China is a correct decision made by Costa Rica, which serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples. The Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica will strengthen exchanges and cooperation and share experience in state governance with China's National People's Congress and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, to continuously elevate Costa Rica-China relations to new heights.

Vice Foreign Minister Lydia Maria Peralta Cordero welcomed Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi's visit to Costa Rica, stating that Costa Rica abides by the one-China principle and thanks China for its support and assistance in the country's economic and social development. Costa Rica is willing to work with China to deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields, so as to bring more benefits to the people of both countries.
