Recently, Director-General of the Department of Arms Control of the Foreign Ministry Sun Xiaobo attended the third session of the Preparatory Committee for the Eleventh Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York and made a statement. He called for giving full play to the role of the NPT in serving peace and development in the new era and for upholding the authority, effectiveness and universality of the NPT, and emphasized that China's nuclear forces and nuclear policies are important contributions to world peace.

Sun Xiaobo also held bilateral meetings with UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu and representatives from relevant countries and international organizations.
