On May 25, 2025, Secretary of the Communist Party of China Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Qi Yu attended the opening ceremony of the 20th Western China International Fair (WCIF) and delivered remarks.
Qi Yu stated that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the WCIF and also the 25th anniversary of China's implementation of the strategy for large-scale development of China's western regions. Over the past 25 years, the WCIF has played a significant role as a vital window in promoting trade, investment, and opening up in China's western regions, becoming a "shining brand" showcasing the development of western China to the world.
Qi Yu emphasized that in recent years, the western region has continuously burst forth with new vitality in technological innovation, fully demonstrated new prospects in green development, and accelerated the formation of a new pattern of opening up. This once again proves that openness is the only way to achieve prosperity and development. As President Xi Jinping has stressed on multiple occasions, China will not close its door to the world and will open its door even wider. In the face of challenges such as rising unilateralism and protectionism, as well as the tariff-bullying actions of the United States, China's steps towards a higher-standard opening up will not stagnate. China is ready to work hand in hand with other countries to resist unilateralism with solidarity and cooperation, and oppose protectionism with openness and inclusiveness.
Qi Yu expressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will fully mobilize various resources, earnestly practice the principle of "diplomacy for the people", support western provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in strengthening exchanges and cooperation with sister provinces and states of foreign countries, organize foreign-related forums and exhibitions well, better participate in the Belt and Road cooperation, and create favorable conditions for the western region to further form a new pattern of greater protection, greater openness, and high-quality development.
This year's WCIF, themed "Deepen Reform for More Momentum, Expand Openness for Greater Growth", was attended by leading comrades from the National People's Congress, responsible officials from relevant departments, political figures from related countries, diplomatic envoys to China, and representatives from over 3,000 domestic and foreign enterprises.
