On July 2, 2025, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with foreign representatives who are in China to attend the Seminar on Multilateral Affairs for Non-Permanent Members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council. Diplomats from five countries newly elected as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, including Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia and Liberia, as well as officials from the UN Secretariat were present.

Miao Deyu congratulated the five countries on their election as non-permanent members of the Security Council for the 2026-2027 term. He said that the world today is facing frequent hotspot issues and regional conflicts, posing serious challenges to global security. Security Council members should prioritize the common interests of the international community, resolve disputes and differences through peaceful means, strengthen unity and consultation, jointly uphold the authority of the Security Council, and help the Security Council fulfill its due role. China is ready to take the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations as an opportunity to work with other Security Council members to revisit the founding mission of the United Nations, uphold the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, and make greater contributions to jointly safeguarding world peace and stability and promoting human development and progress.

The seminar representatives expressed their gratitude to China for hosting the seminar and for its thoughtful arrangements. They said that the seminar provided a useful platform for newly elected non-permanent members of the UN Security Council to familiarize themselves with the work of the Security Council as soon as possible and enhance dialogue and exchanges. They look forward to strengthening communication and cooperation with China in the Security Council to jointly uphold multilateralism and international law and make positive efforts to safeguard world peace and security.
