On March 27, 2025, Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue met with Iranian Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahdi Shushtari in Brasilia. The two sides had an exchange of views on bilateral relations and the situation in the Middle East.
Zhai Jun said, China and Iran are comprehensive strategic partners and important members of the Global South. In October last year, President Xi Jinping held a successful meeting with President Masoud Pezeshkian during the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, which charted the course for the development of China-Iran relations in the next stage. China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Iran on the Middle East affairs to safeguard the common interests of the Global South.
Mahdi Shushtari said Iran and China have long enjoyed friendly relations, and Iran appreciates China's recent successful hosting of the Beijing meeting between the vice foreign ministers of China, Russia, and Iran. As tensions in the Middle East escalate, Iran is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China within the BRICS cooperation mechanism and at other multilateral platforms to contribute BRICS' wisdom toward achieving peace and stability in the Middle East.
