On August 15, 2025, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong summoned Chief Minister of the Embassy of Japan in China Yokochi Akira, and lodged stern protests with the Japanese side over Japanese political figures' paying respect to Yasukuni Shrine on August 15.
