
On January 22, 2026, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi, upon invitation, attended and delivered a speech at a reception hosted by the diplomatic corps of Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) states in China for incoming and outgoing diplomatic envoys. Representatives from various countries of the corps were present at the event.
Qiu Xiaoqi fully recognized the contributions made by the outgoing ambassadors of Honduras and Bolivia to the development of relations with China, and welcomed the newly-appointed ambassadors of Chile, Uruguay, and Peru. He stated that China firmly supports the status of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace. China is willing to work with LAC states to continue responding to changes in the international landscape through unity and cooperation, to seek development and prosperity through mutually beneficial cooperation, and to continuously strengthen solidarity and cooperation of the Global South.
Dean of the diplomatic corps of Latin American and Caribbean States in China and Ambassador of Dominica to China Martin Charles delivered a speech, expressing gratitude to China for its support in the building of a Zone of Peace in Latin America and the Caribbean. He said that the four global initiatives proposed by China and the third "China's Policy Paper on Latin America and the Caribbean" have brought broad opportunities for China-LAC cooperation. The LAC side is willing to work with China to promote the steady and long-term development of China-LAC friendship.
