On March 6, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu, upon invitation, attended the reception held by the Embassy of Ghana in China to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Ghana’s independence.

Miao Deyu congratulated Ghana on its Independence Day, noting that Ghana is among the first sub-Saharan countries to establish diplomatic relations with China, and that the traditional friendship between China and Ghana was forged by the older generation of leaders of both countries. In 2025, President Xi Jinping met with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, who was in China for the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, and reached important common understandings on deepening the China-Ghana strategic partnership. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the two sides have solidified the China-Ghana strategic partnership, with fruitful outcomes in practical cooperation across various fields, thereby delivering tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries. China stands ready to work with Ghana to make the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges a full success and strengthen the friendship between China and Ghana and between China and Africa. In the face of this volatile world, President Xi Jinping has put forward the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, as well as the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative. China is willing to work with Ghana to jointly pursue peace, cooperation, and development, and to advance together with Africa toward the goal of modernization.

Ghanaian Ambassador to China Kojo Bonsu noted that Ghana and China enjoy a profound friendship, and the bilateral relations, on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit, have achieved steady progress over the years. Ghana highly values the Ghana-China strategic partnership and stands ready to strengthen cooperation across various sectors by leveraging opportunities such as the implementation of the important common understandings between the two heads of state and the zero-tariff treatment. Ghana welcomes Chinese enterprises and individuals to the country for investment and travel, so as to promote the common development and prosperity of the two countries.
