Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Meets with Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to China Fazeel Najeeb

On March 10, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met with Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to China Fazeel Najeeb.

Sun Weidong said that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Mohamed Muizzu, China-Maldives relations have continued to develop at a high level, with positive results achieved in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and practical cooperation in various fields, benefiting the peoples of both countries. China is willing to continue working with the Maldives to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen the synergy between China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and the Maldivian development strategy, firmly support each other, expand practical cooperation, enhance people-to-people exchanges, deepen the China-Maldives comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and build a closer China-Maldives community with a shared future. 

Fazeel stated that President Xi Jinping is a great leader with far-sighted vision, and that the 15th Five-Year Plan is comprehensive, strategic and continuous, which will lead the Chinese people to achieve new and greater accomplishments. A strong China is an important force for maintaining world peace and stability and will surely play a greater leading role in international and regional affairs. The Maldives firmly adheres to the one-China principle, is grateful to China for its valuable support to the Maldives’ economic and social development, and is willing to expand cooperation with China in areas such as tourism, education, economy and trade.

The two sides also exchanged views on the international and regional situations as well as other issues of common concern.
