Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Meets with Ambassador of Timor-Leste to China Maubere Lorosae da Silva Horta

On March 12, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met with Ambassador of Timor-Leste to China Maubere Lorosae da Silva Horta.

Sun Weidong stated that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Timor-Leste relations have maintained steady growth. This year marks the first year of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period. China will pursue high-quality development and expand high-standard opening up, bringing new opportunities to Timor-Leste and other countries around the world. China stands ready to work with Timor-Leste to carry forward traditional friendship, form greater synergy of the development strategies between the two countries, and move the bilateral relations toward the direction of building a community with a shared future. In the face of a changing and turbulent world, President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Governance Initiative, which has received extensive support from countries around the world. China is willing to work with Timor-Leste to jointly champion the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and true multilateralism, promote the building of a more just and equitable global governance system, and contribute to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world at large.

Maubere Lorosae da Silva Horta congratulated China on the successful convening of the Two Sessions and applauded China’s rapid socioeconomic development, which brings important opportunities to the region and the world. Timor-Leste highly values its relations with China, and thanks China for its valuable assistance to Timor-Leste’s economic and social development over the years and its support for Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN. Timor-Leste stands ready to deepen practical cooperation with China in various fields, strengthen multilateral coordination, and take the bilateral relations to new heights.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
