On March 13, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met with Malaysian Ambassador to China Norman Muhamad.
Sun Weidong stated that China-Malaysia relations continue to operate at a high level. President Xi Jinping’s successful state visit to Malaysia last year provided strategic direction for deepening the building of a China-Malaysia community with a shared future. The recently concluded Two Sessions reviewed and approved the outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan for China, which brings broad opportunities for cooperation to neighboring countries, including Malaysia. China stands ready to work with Malaysia to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, deepen strategic synergy, jointly promote the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and strive for deeper and more substantive progress in the construction of a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future. This will better support the modernization of both nations and jointly promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.
Norman Muhamad congratulated China on the successful conclusion of the Two Sessions and spoke highly of the remarkable achievements made in China’s economic and social development, which continue to inject stability into the region and the world. He stated that given the complex and changing international situation, Malaysia looks forward to China playing a significant leading role in international affairs. Norman Muhamad reiterated Malaysia’s firm commitment to the one-China policy and emphasized that the development strategies of Malaysia and China are highly compatible, with huge potential for economic and trade cooperation. Malaysia is willing to advance comprehensive strategic cooperation with China, deepen exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, and work together to build a Malaysia-China community with a shared future.
The two sides also exchanged views on the international and regional situations as well as other issues of common concern.
