On May 20, 2026, Qi Dahai, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Foreign Ministry, and Salina Grenet-Catalano, Director of Global Affairs at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the first meeting of the China-France Working Group on Addressing Climate and Environmental Challenges in Beijing. Delegates attended from a wide range of Chinese government bodies, including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Water Resources, the China Meteorological Administration, the National Energy Administration, and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. They were joined by representatives from the French Ministry of Ecological Transition and the French Embassy in China.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on key issues of mutual concern regarding climate change response and environmental governance.
