
On May 21, 2026, the 32nd China-ASEAN Senior Officials’ Consultation was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Vice Foreign Minister Hua Chunying and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Amran Mohamed Zin co-chaired the meeting, which was attended by senior officials or representatives from other ASEAN member states and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN.
Hua Chunying stated that this year marks the first year of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. As an anchor of stability and source of momentum for the global economy, China’s development will benefit its neighbors first and bring more opportunities. China is ready to work with ASEAN to implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two sides, take the opportunity of the fifth anniversary of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to further integrate interests, focus on emerging industries, expand maritime cooperation, strengthen people-to-people and cultural ties, safeguard common security, and build a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, helping Asia remain a high ground of development and prosperity.
ASEAN countries spoke highly of China’s tremendous development achievements, expressed readiness to see a stronger and more prosperous China, and commended China’s support for ASEAN solidarity and community building. They noted that China is ASEAN’s dialogue partner with the most fruitful practical cooperation outcomes, and that bilateral cooperation has delivered benefits to the people of the region and is vital to maintaining regional stability and promoting development and prosperity. ASEAN countries are ready to work with China to jointly hold commemorative events for the fifth anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, deepen cooperation in various fields, jointly tackle challenges and achieve common development.
