On June 24, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Chen Chuandong addressed the First International Conference of Universities and Artificial Intelligence Technology, which was co-hosted by China Association of Higher Education and Association of Arab Universities in Amman.
Ambassador Chen said that AI brings profound changes to human society, calling for enhanced international cooperation, broad consensus and coordinated action. President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Artificial Intelligence Governance Initiative, advocates balancing security and development, and developing an open, fair and effective AI global governance structure. He emphasized that universities are vital breeding grounds for both talents and scientific and technological progress, cooperation on AI development is integral to collaborative efforts between Chinese and Arab universities. He expressed his hope that the conference will energize cooperation between China and Arab states on AI and higher education, paving the way for a China-Arab community with a shared future.
Professor Yan Chunhua, Vice President of China Association of Higher Education and member of the Chinese Academy o Sciences, professor Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary General of Association of Arab Universities also addressed the Conference. About 200 experts from universities of 14 countries participated in the Conference.
