On July 8, Chinese Ambassador to Maldives H.E. Wang Lixin attended the handover ceremony of solar street lights donated by Yunnan Province to the Maldives. Hon. Adam Shareef, Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works and Mr. Hassan Faiz, President of the Himmafushi Council were also present at the ceremony.

Ambassador Wang said that China and the Maldives have set a good example of equal treatment, mutual respect and win-win cooperation between countries of different sizes. The donation of solar street lights from Yunnan Province to Himmafushi is a new initiative to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state on strengthening local government cooperation and promoting sustainable development, and a testament of the traditional friendship and close cooperation between the two countries. China is willing to work together with the Maldives to inject new impetus into the China-Maldives comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and usher our bilateral relations into a brighter future.
Hon. Adam Shareef and Mr. Hassan Faiz expressed gratitude for the donation from China and said that China is an important cooperative partner of the Maldives. The donation of street lights from Yunnan Province to the Maldives reflects the profound friendship between the two countries and has improved the livelihood of local people. The Maldives hopes to achieve national prosperity and improve people's well-being through further strengthening cooperation with China.
