Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Hou Yanqi Discusses China-ASEAN Relations with High-level Officials of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia

From 11 to 12 July 2024, H.E. Hou Yanqi, Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN, paid a visit to Malaysia.

During the visit, Ambassador Houcalled on H.E. Dato' Sri Amran Mohamed Zin, Secretary General ofMinistry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia and ASEAN-Malaysia SOM Leader, andmet with H.E. Dato' Zanariah Zainal Abidin, Director General of ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat. Ambassador Hou also visited the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter Terrorism.

Ambassador Hou said that China welcomes Malaysia taking on the role of country coordinator for ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations after the PMC. China is willing to work with Malaysia to implement the important consensus reached by our leaders, keep the right direction of East Asian cooperation. China and ASEAN will organize more events of ASEAN-China Year of People-to-people Exchanges together, and enhance cooperation in fields such as trade and investment, digital economy, energy transition, and blue economy.

Malaysian side appreciated China's firm support for ASEAN centrality and expressed readiness to work together with China during its term as the country coordinator. Malaysian side aims to deepen ASEAN-China cooperation in the three pillars of political- security,economicand socio-cultural areas,and advance ASEAN-China relations to new heights.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional issues of mutual interest.
