On July 13, Chinese Ambassador to Iran Cong Peiwu visited the city of Tabriz and met with the mayor of Tabriz Yaghoub Houshyar.

Ambassador Cong said that in recent years, China and Iran has continued to deepen the traditional friendship and to develop the  healthy and stable bilateral relations. China attaches great importance to subnational exchanges and cooperation with Iran, which is an important part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. It is believed that the implementation of the "Belt and Road" will bring new development opportunities to Tabriz. The Chinese Embassy in Iran will continue to play a bridging role to promote subnational exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Houshyar said that Tabriz is an ancient capital with profound cultural heritage in Iran and a vibrant emerging industrial city. Tabriz is willing to actively participate in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and strengthen subnational cooperation with China.
