Chinese Ambassador to Tonga Liu Weimin and the Experts of the China-aid Agro-Tech Cooperation Project met with the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forests of Tonga

On September 5th, 2024, H.E. Mr. Liu Weimin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Tonga, met with Hon. Lord Fohe, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forests of Tonga, together with the experts of the China-aid Agro-Tech Cooperation Project Phase VII. Dr. Viliami Toalei Manu, The CEO for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests, Mrs.Wu Yirong, First Secretary of Chinese Embassy to Tonga attended the meeting.

Ambassador Liu said that the Chinese government attaches importance to the national health and food security of Tonga, and has implemented six Agro-Tech Cooperation projects in cooperation with the MAFF since 2009. The previous cooperation have achieved fruitful results, and the Agro-Tech Cooperation project has now become the brand name of China-aid projects. The new phase of the project is about to start  and we hope both sides will continue to work closely and make joint efforts to contribute to the development of agriculture in Tonga. Mr. Jiang Weiguo, the team leader of the project, said that on the basis of previous cooperation, they will carry forward the spirit of China-aid in the new era and actively promote China-Tonga practical cooperation in the field of agriculture to achieve new results.

Lord Fohe spoke highly of the outstanding contributions made by the previous project team, expressed his gratitude to China's assistance, and said that the MAFF would fully cooperate with the project work and strive to learn from China's advanced agricultural technology and experience.
