From 16th to 19th September 2024, Chinese Consul-General Dr Ruan Zongze visited Torres Shire in Far North Queensland. During the visit, Dr Ruan met with Ms Cynthia Lui, Queensland Parliament Member for Cook and local government officials, held talks with "First Nations" people elders, and visited overseas Chinese.
Dr Ruan introduced the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, China's ethnic policies, and the achievements in poverty reduction. He stated that the friendly exchanges between Australia's "First Nations" and overseas Chinese can be traced back hundreds of years, and the first visit of an Indigenous Australians delegation to China was before the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia. The Chinese Consulate- General is willing to promote practical cooperation and people to people and cultural exchanges in the new era and deepen the friendship between the two peoples.
Local communities warmly welcomed Consul-General Ruan's visit and are willing to gain better understanding and learn from China's poverty reduction experience. They hope to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in areas such as economy, trade, and culture.
