The Seminar on Community-based Disaster Risk Management and Resilience Building for Pacific Island Countries was Held in Tonga

On 28th October, the Seminar on Community-based Disaster Risk Management and Resilience Building for Pacific Island Countries was held in Tonga. This Seminar was jointly organized by Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), Ministry of Commerce and National Disaster Reduction Center of China (NDRCC), Ministry of Emergency Management, and co-organized by Tonga National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) and the Chinese Embassy in Tonga. Hon. Minister for Agricultural, Lord Fohe, Chinese Ambassador to Tonga, H.E. Mr. Liu Weimin, and Director of National Disaster Reduction Centre of China(NDRCC), Mr. Shi Feng attended the opening ceremony.

Ambassador Liu said, China regards Pacific Island countries as important development partners. Cooperation in disaster management continued to deepen in recent years, which delivered tangible benefits to people of Pacific Island countries. China stands ready to work with Pacific Island countries to enhance disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities so as to jointly address the challenges of climate change and natural disasters, and build an even closer community of shared future between China and Pacific Island countries.

This five-day seminar attracted around 30 participants from Pacific island countries such as Tonga and Fiji.
