On 4 November 2024, Her Excellency Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, Yan Jiarong, visited COLLAB Restoration Village in Grand Bahama. She toured the village community center, visited villagers' restoration houses, talked with villagers, and attended donation ceremony of Chinese assistance for post-hurricane restoration in Grand Bahama. The Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ms. Moxey, and Permanent Secretary of Ministry for Grand Bahama Mr. Lewis were together for the tour.
Ambassador Yan expressed appreciation for this local government project for people’s livelihood. She highlighted that both China and The Bahamas have been significantly impacted by natural disasters resulting from climate change. She expressed her heartfelt empathy to villagers displaced by the hurricanes. She highly praised the resilience and optimism of locals, and wished for a swift complete recovery in Bahamian towns and villages. Yan highlighted that under the framework of South-South cooperation on climate change, China has provided assistance to The Bahamas and is willing to enhance exchanges and cooperation with The Bahamas in the fields such as green, low-carbon development and disaster prevention and mitigation.
The villagers warmly welcomed Ambassador Yan's visit and expressed their gratitude for China’s various assistance to The Bahamas. Ambassador Yan was also interviewed on-site by Bahamian medias.
