On November 21, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors reviewed the Iranian nuclear issue. Ambassador Li Song, the Permanent Representative of China to the IAEA, attended the meeting. Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the United States jointly promoted a new resolution to put pressure on Iran. Among the 35 Member States of the Board of Governors, China, the Russian Federation and Burkina Faso voted against it, and 12 developing countries including Brazil, South Africa, India and Egypt abstained.

Ambassador Li pointed out that the fundamental solution to properly addressing non-proliferation hotspot issues lies in political and diplomatic efforts as well as constructive cooperation on multilateral platforms. China welcomes Iran’s cooperation with IAEA on outstanding safeguards issues and highly commend the active interactions and positive outcomes during DG’s visit to Iran last week. Several years ago, due to a reason known to all, the authority, effectiveness and smooth implementation of the JCPOA were seriously undermined. We urge all relevant parties to take a serious look at the current situation of the Iran nuclear issue in a careful and responsible manner, play a constructive role in the political resolution, and make real efforts for true diplomacy.
