On 25 September, H.E. Wang Yu, Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, met with H.E. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), Minister of Internal Security of Somalia. The two sides inaugurated "Action for a Mine-free Africa" in Somalia.

Ambassador Wang recalled President Xi Jinping's announcement of "Action for a Mine-free Africa" during his important keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He said that in order to implement this significant initiative and the related consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud during their latest meeting, so as to support Somalia in effectively overcoming the threat of landmines and protecting its people's lives and property, China will donated 1 million RMB to the Somali Explosives Management Agency (SEMA), supervised by the Ministry of Internal Security of Somalia, to strengthen the country's capabilities in landmine survey and risk education.

Minister Fartaag congratulated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and appreciated China for making Somalia one of the beneficiary countries of "Action for a Mine-free Africa". He said that in view of the serious threat of landmines in Somalia, the initiative of "Action for a Mine-free Africa" will effectively help Somalia improve its mine eradication capabilities and protect its people's lives and property, for which the Somali people are deeply grateful. He said that Somalia is ready to strengthen cooperation with China to facilitate the country's peace and reconstruction process.
