On October 23, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei paid courtesy call on Syrian new Vice President Faisal Mikdad and exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of common concern.

Shi Hongwei conveyed Chinese Vice President Han Zheng's cordial greetings to Migdad, saying that in recent years, under the personal care and strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Syria political mutual trust has greatly deepened and cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results. China is willing to continue to provide assistance within its capacity for Syria's development and reconstruction, promote unity and cooperation in the global South, and push the China-Syria strategic partnership to a new level.

Migdad asked Ambassador Shi to convey his best wishes to Vice President Han Zheng, saying that Syria firmly supports all global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, highly appreciates China's achievements in modernization, and firmly supports China's important leading role in international affairs. He thanked China for its long-term selfless assistance to Syria and for speaking up for Syria on international arena. Syria is willing to strengthen cooperation with China and jointly defend international fairness and justice.
