On January 21, the Chinese Consulate General in Penang held the 2025 Chinese New Year Reception. Chinese Consul General in Penang Zhou Youbin, Chief Minister of Penang YAB Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, government officials and members of the Parliament and State Legislative Assembly from the four states in Northern Malaysia, representatives of political parties, Penang consular corps, overseas Chinese, Chinese enterprises and students and so-on, over 500 people attended the reception.
Consul General Zhou extended his best wishes for the Chinese New Year to all the guests, introduced China’s outstanding achievements in economic and social development in 2024, reviewed the fruitful results of China-Malaysia exchanges and cooperation in various fields in the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and said that the Consulate General will continue to deepen the cooperation with all sectors of the consular district, promote the development of China-Malaysia local relations steadily, and make unremitting efforts for the construction of the China-Malaysia community with a shared future.
Chow Kon Yeow said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 50 years ago, cooperation in various fields between Malaysia and China has continued to deepen. He looked forward to new opportunities and greater achievements in Malaysia-China cooperation in the upcoming new year.
The reception was held in a festive and warm atmosphere. Local Chinese private school and art groups brought wonderful cultural performances such as 24 Festive Drums, Chinese music, singing and dancing, suffusing the reception with festive air.
