I sincerely congratulate Ambassador Laura Gil of Colombia on successfully completing her term as rotating chair of the G77 and China. Over the past year, under Ambassador Gil’s leadership, the G77 and China has made positive influence on the multilateral platform in Vienna, and played an important role in defending the common interests of developing countries.
I would also like to congratulate Ambassador Maurice Makoloo of Kenya on assuming the role of rotating chair for 2025. China will fully support your work, and I believe that the G77 and China will continue actively engaging on the Vienna multilateral platform, further strengthening the positive momentum of developing countries joining forces for self-strengthening and common development.
China is the closest partner of the G77 and cherish the cooperation mechanism of the G77 and China. We firmly stand with the G77 and the Global South to uphold international fairness and justice, and promote international development cooperation. Looking ahead to 2025, the international situation is facing increasing instability and uncertainty, with unilateralism and protectionism presenting new severe challenges to the United Nations and the developing world. We firmly believe that peace, development and win-win cooperation are the trends of the times and the aspirations of the people, and are also the common pursuit of the Global South. As 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, there is a need for the G77 and China to play a more active and powerful role. The G77 and the Global South are not the “silent majority”, but important force defending fairness and justice, advocating and practicing true multilateralism.
China is willing to work with all parties to actively participate in and strongly support the work of the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna. We will support all initiatives and efforts on the Vienna multilateral platform that promote the well-being of developing countries, and together, we will advance the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, making development the sunshine that shines in the Global South.
