Chinese Ambassador to Tonga Liu Weimin Attends the Handover Ceremony for Medical Supplies

On February 11th, H.E. Ambassador Liu Weimin and Hon. Dr. Ana AKauola, Minster for Health, attended the handover ceremony for medical supplies.

In his speech, Ambassador Liu recalled the medical assistance offered by China in the past 15 years to Tonga, including the construction of hospital and health centers, supplying medical materials during the COVID-19 pandemic, dispatching five Chinese medical teams and Chinese naval hospital ship ‘Peace Ark’ to provide medical services. He emphasized that the donation of medical supplies reflected once again China’s full commitment to the globally shared goal of cherishing life and improving health. China stood ready to work together with Tonga to face up to global challenges in the field of health, promote public healthcare in both countries, and make more contributions to building a global community of health for all.

Hon. Dr. Ana AKauola thanked China for the medical assistance , spoke highly of professionalism of the Chinese medical team, and hoped to further enhance Tongan people’s health with the support from China.

Both sides signed the handover certificate. Ambassador Liu also called on Hon. Dr. Ana AKauola. They agreed on further cooperation in medical and health field between China and Tonga.
