Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian paid a courtesy call on President of Fiji His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu on February 12th. The two sides exchanged ideas on China-Fiji relationship.
Amb. Zhou conveyed the cordial greetings of Chinese leaders, and spoke highly of China-Fiji relations. He said that China is ready to implement the consensus reached during Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s visit to China, and build on the momentum of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 170th anniversary of the arrival of Chinese people in Fiji to take bilateral relations to the next level. Zhou gave an update on important cooperation projects, and expressed the willingness of China to further deepen cooperation across the board to bring more tangible benefits to the two peoples.
President Lalabalavu thanked Amb. Zhou for paying a call, and asked Zhou to convey his best wishes to Chinese leaders. Lalabalavu said that China is an important partner of Fiji. The two countries have shared weal and woe, and Fiji is committed to the one-China principle. China’s achievements in poverty reduction and socioeconomic development are impressive. Fiji is ready to seize the good momentum of bilateral relations and enhance cooperation with China to bring new opportunities to Fiji’s development.
